The desk effect

What is your working day doing to your wellbeing?

For many of us, the working day involves hours spent sitting, often without realising quite how little we have moved.

By the end of the day we can feel stiff, tired and low on energy. When energy dips, it can also be easy to reach for another coffee, something sweet to keep us going.

The Desk Effect Interactive Workplace Workshop

Sit. Reach. Score. Discover.

The session combines a simple sit and reach activity with our interactive Wellbeing Score quiz.

The sit and reach activity gets people moving and starts a conversation about flexibility, stiffness and what can happen when long periods of sitting become a normal part of the working day.

The Wellbeing Score then takes the conversation further, encouraging participants to think about the everyday habits that influence their energy, food choices and overall wellbeing.

Together, they create a simple but powerful question:

What is your working day doing to your body, energy and everyday choices?

Connecting the dots

Our health behaviours rarely happen in isolation.

A busy day can mean sitting for long periods. Less movement can leave us feeling stiff and sluggish. Tiredness, stress and lack of preparation can influence what we choose to eat and drink. Those choices can then affect how we feel later in the day.

The workshop helps employees recognise some of these patterns without judgement and, importantly, identify realistic ways to interrupt them.

We explore practical strategies around movement, nutrition, energy, hydration, breaks and everyday working habits that can be incorporated into a normal working day.

No dramatic lifestyle overhaul, just small changes that can add up.

Why it works

The Desk Effect is designed to be interactive, thought provoking and practical.

It takes familiar workplace experiences, sitting for too long, feeling stiff, the afternoon energy slump, reaching for a quick snack, and uses them to start a much broader conversation about health.

Employees leave with a better understanding of how their daily habits are connected and practical ideas they can use to support their wellbeing both during and beyond the working day.

Ideal for workplace wellbeing

The Desk Effect can be delivered as a standalone workshop or incorporated into a workplace wellbeing day, lunch and learn, employee health event or wider wellbeing programme.

It can also provide an engaging starting point for conversations around healthy ageing, nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, energy and long term health.

Because sometimes improving our health starts with noticing what we do every day.
